It is good to start with creating policies and guidelines around documentation; should outline which network components must be recorded and detail who within your organization is responsible for which parts of the documentation process for clarity and accountability. Ensure the documentation standard complies with industry standards and relevant regulations—document structure such as topologies, configuration, IPAM, Security, troubleshooting, etc. Clearly define naming conventions for components, interfaces, VLANs, etc., to facilitate easy identification & understanding. Its very important that each and every data is protected including nut not limited to our product documentation. Better to encrypt and store in multiple locations and forms including cloud storage so that if something happens we could recover easily. We should have internal auditing on disaster revovery and update policies as process of continous improvement. It has to be end to end encrypted between endpoints.
