What are effective follow-up strategies when you're interested in multiple job fair positions?

Generic Follow up email always get lost in transit ?? Your goal at a job fair is not to impress recruiters only. Ensure you get a personalised contact form each organisation you are interested in. A name and personal email, not just enquiry@... or contact@.... If the contact assures you that such emails come to them, still ensure you address the email to their first name.

After making a connection and collecting contact information at a job fair, make a few quick notes so that you remember what you discussed with the recruiter! It is especially important to make note of advice they provided or specific roles they recommended. Take notes on the anecdotes they share that are a bit more personal, as well. Then, when you follow up with them later, you can tailor your note to reference the conversation that you had with more personal details. This will help the recruiter remember you! A bonus: If they advise you to check out an article, podcast, job posting, program, follow through and mention that you took their advice!

Connect with people on LinkedIn using QR codes, if they don't have LinkedIn, get their email address or mobile numbers if they are willing to share. In a job fair, be proactive in reaching out to people that you have a connection with and not getting contact details with every single person that you have seen and said hello to.

Don't make collecting contact information the focus. Be human first. Connect with the individual by having a conversation and showing your personality. The people you speak to at a job fair speak to hundreds of people, most of whom only interact to gain something and forget to connect as human beings. This means it's very easy to not remember most people you meet. Yeah, you can send a follow-up message but so will everyone else. How will you stand out? What will make the difference is being able to refer back to a moment that wasn't related to the job when you do reach out, and the only way to do that is to have a genuine conversation with the company contact. Once you've done this, get the LinkedIn contact and/or email before moving on.

Whether it's your phone or a piece of paper, make sure that you keep track of the companies you visited, the representatives you meet there, and their contact information! This will especially be helpful when they reach out to you, and since you've already left an impression on them during the career fair, they're more likely to reach out to know than someone who just cold-applied. Types of information to collect: email addresses, phone numbers, LinkedIn profiles, etc.

See this little trick I ask my clients to use. Immediately you get back home from a fair, type up your follow up emails and schedule them for 8:00 am the next working day. You will land right on top of your contact's mind! The timing of your mail can make or mar your getting a response.

I would definitely recommend following up within 24 hours while someone's memory is still fresh. This means creating a strong first impression on the person that you just met. Be interested in their background and not having a transactional, one-sided networking experience. Even if you are an active job-seeker, avoid coming across as being too needy or demanding or immediately sending in your resume to someone you just met. 1) Introduce yourself in terms of your key areas of expertise and skills, your motivations and what you are passionate about. 2) Follow up on what you discussed when you had met them at the event, it could be something that you picked up such as their favourite footy team, professional interests etc.

As mentioned in the first point, you ideally want to be able to refer to a moment or point that came out of the conversation you had that was not work-related. When mentioning this in your communication, keep this part brief and then bring the message back to your interest and suitability. This will humanise you before becoming a candidate and help the contact remember you. Generally, I recommend you message the next morning. Messages sent once the day begins can get lost or may take longer to be read. You want to catch the contact before the day begins.

It's important to follow up promptly. Whether it's shortly after the career fair or within 48 hours, you want to send personalized emails while the interactions are still fresh in their minds. Tip: Send emails within WORKING hours. In the personalized email, thank the company representatives or recruiters for taking the time to speak with you at the career fair, summarize your expertise and why you think you're qualified for that role and that you're also passionate about the company's mission. Also, don't forget to attach your resume or any additional documents!

Sending a personalized email is very important, you can document your resume, cover letter, portfolio and any documents requested during your conversations ensuring it is professional and concise... Ensure you send your email as early as possible This will give you an edge in the position you seek.

Don't be bashful about this step. If you acquired contact information and the number was part of it, use it to the fullest extent. In today's world candidates tend to be phone call-avoidant, preferring digital exchange. In a job fair environment where you're less likely to be memorable, a phone call, using the very info they gave you would be a direct channel to re-engage. If you're successful reaching the contact, prepare to remind them how you met and obtained their info. Explain your interest in whatever opportunity was available and ask for an opportunity to set up an interview.

I don't recommend following up with phone calls. Only do this at the contact's request. You don't want to become a nuisance. A LinkedIn message or email is enough. If you don't hear back after 2 days, you can send a follow-up message. After that, let it be. You can't and shouldn't pester people to talk to you.

I think a phone call follow-up depends on your relationship with the person otherwise email follow-up is okay but if you feel your relationship is good enough then you have to be courageous, explain to the person where you met and then you should remind them of your interest and position you applied for. After which, you thank them for their time and express your eagerness to hear from them soon.

When you connect with someone on social media, send them a message that mentions how you met them ("It was nice to meet you at the job fair..."), and potentially highlight something you discussed ("I appreciated your insights on..."). This will help them remember you, while also leaving yourself some breadcrumbs for the next time you reach out to them. If you want to reach back out at some point in the future, your message history will give you some hints as to who they are, how you met them, and how you might want to restart the conversation.

Always add someone on LinkedIn after meeting them at a job fair. You want to be confident, and express your excitement. The most important part is tailoring it to the person you met. Tell them something that stood out from your conversation, to show that they were memorable to you. It’ll give you a good pathway for next steps and follow up as well!

The only social platform you should connect with professional contacts on is LinkedIn. Any other platform should be deemed as personal unless the contact shared it with you or they share the other platforms on their LinkedIn.

Like with emails, when you send the representatives whom you met at the career fair the other day, send them a personalized message that thanks them for your time, why your skills and experience are relevant to the role, etc. Also, ENGAGE with their content! Like, post, and comment! This helps demonstrate your industry knowledge, keeps you updated with opportunities and the industry, etc.

Persistence is great but you do have to be careful with this as it can backfire, no matter how respectful you are. A contact schedule I recommend trying: 1 day after 2 days after that 1 week after that If you don't hear anything back, try another contact. Please do not contact bomb this person.

You can demonstrate persistence, but be cautious. The key is to not lose contact with the most valuable connections. Even if you receive a negative response or are ignored, stay in touch with those professionals who left the best impression. Check in on them periodically, engage with their posts if they are active on social media, and consider planning a quick meeting or coffee catch-up. Networking is an ongoing strategy, so continue to cultivate and nurture these connections over time.

It is possible that just because you want the job doesn’t mean you are suitable for it. Follow up but feel free to give it up. No company or person is worth the time and effort if you have to beg #TheirLoss

Persistence is okay but should be done with caution and endeavour to be respectful while at it. You should space up your follow up and try to use different methods of communication, if after 2 weeks, no response you move on. The contact is there and can be helpful some other time. Always remember connecting and networking are the keys to better opportunities.

It's highly probable that you'll receive multiple job offers or establish a lot of valuable connections at job fairs, especially since these companies are actively hiring and you've already reached the interview stage. However, it's crucial to prioritize your actions and focus primarily on the top roles. Take the time to research these companies again, ensuring that their roles align with your career vision and aspirations, and evaluate whether their professional environment would allow you to thrive and grow.
