I'm not a fan of corporate acronyms, but here is where SMART goals come into play. When defining your purpose it's easy to be too high-level or theoretical, but to lack practical application and results. So, get SMART with your goals: Specific – be exact about your purpose and audience Measurable – how can you measure the impact? Get your metrics and measurement in place before you start. Achievable – I like to swap this with Action and have a checklist and a phased approach. Relevant – will it really make an impact? It needs to be worth your time and effort. Time-Bound – here’s the kicker, put an end date or this will go on to infinity.

On of the most effective ways to develop an effective communication strategy is to use a tool we call "Communication Matrix" and it can be used for many purposes. In this matrix we list down all the types of communications that should take place in this particular context (what), the purpose and objectives of this communication (why), the time/frequency for making this communication (when), the stakeholders relevant to this communication (who), the platform/medium to be leveraged to make it (where), and the approach to be adopted (how). Answering the WH questions will give us a very clear direction to design an effective communication strategy.

One other thing to consider when contemplating this point is cultural differences. In this increasingly globalized world, chances are you will have to communicate with people who have a different understanding of certain words, tones, and expressions. The same joke can be considered polite to some people, and rude to others. It's important to consider it especially when working with people from other countries. If there's a group of people you need to communicate with regularly who have a different culture or subculture, I'd recommend looking into their language and expressions and adapting them to your communication strategies in order to land the message more effectively with your target audience.

Wichtig ist, dass man Feedback annehmen kann und dies nicht als reine Kritik am eigenen Verhalten betrachtet. Insbesondere beim Thema Nachhaltigkeit sto?en oft verschiedene Ansichten aufeinander, welche asynchron sein k?nnen. Feedback kann an dieser Stelle auch helfen, die Bedürfnisse und Empfindungen des Gegenüber nachvollziehen zu k?nnen, sodass perspektivisch die Beziehung gest?rkt werden kann.
