Set some basic expectations, give written feedback and don't overwork by giving actual sample pieces it will only stop their imagination. Give freedom to think explore and experiment. If you need a different duration of music cuts of certain pieces pre-define it don't say that once the job is over. Also define certain things that you don't want. Kind of instruments or anything specific. Apart from that all the hygiene of safe guarding the final product legally and in terms licensing use should be defined.

I really love working on edit lives or being in the studio with a composer for the initial play around and then coming back near the end to tweak and finesse.
