You should have knowledge of satellite communication principles, standards, and protocols as well as the ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and manuals. Proficiency in using various testing and measuring instruments such as spectrum analyzers, multimeters, and oscilloscopes is also necessary. Furthermore, familiarity with different types of satellite communication systems and equipment is key. You should also be able to install, configure, align, and optimize satellite antennas and other components as well as troubleshoot and resolve satellite communication issues and faults. Additionally, you must be able to work safely and follow procedures and regulations. For education and experience requirements, you need a high school diploma or equivalent as well as a certificate or associate degree in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is also needed. Depending on the client you are working for, a security clearance may also be necessary. Certification from a recognized organization such as the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) or the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) is beneficial.
