What I've always found to be handy in this space is the creation (and maintenance) of a set of 'models', i.e. if an outcome of a potential risk is a regulatory fine, can your legal and regulatory team help you produce a model that uses prior examples to estimate a likely outcome in your situation, or if your outcome is revenue loss as a result of customer churn what examples do you have to lean on in the past, have you established a customer value. The ability to be able to use previously signed off models to construct a view of potential outcomes of risk can make the process not only more engaging and understood but also simple. For a more advance next step you could then plug the theory of these models into your stress testing.

Regular stress testing is a standard part of the risk management process for banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions - I think other sectors would benefit from doing it more!

I keep saying this- the core job of a risk manager is to evaluate what can go wrong, be it a proposal, project, experiment etc. Post this, if there are sufficient mitigants available, he or she should evaluate that to figure out the "uncovered" or unmitigated risk & convey that to relevant stakeholders. Of course, the job gets easier or tougher depending on the risk culture of the organisation.

A risk manager implements the risk management programme on behalf of the risk committee. Responsible for developing policy, setting frameworks & minimum control standards, and guiding the organisation through all aspects of risk management. Important to note though that everyone in the organisation is ultimately a risk manager!

Away from the traditional answers about the role of risk manager and his recognized work, from my point of view, the most important role of the risk manager is to link the various events, decisions, and processes in the organization to each other and to look at the organization from the top, as a comprehensive perspective which enables him to identify the correct sources of risk then enable him to put the proper mitigation actions and to facilitate the decision making process by the top management in the future.
