Product design managers have to be able to command a wide array of tools and skills. While we all have our favourite tools (for me it's Figma ??), a design manager has to be able to understand different tools and be able to pick the best ones for their organization. They also have to be able to understand different methodologies, such as agile and lean and be comfortable using all of the tools that come with it. Jira and Trello are well known tools, but there are also plenty of other options such as Asana, Monday.com, Clickup and more. The design manager should be specialized on a few design skills, but should have knowledge of all different disciplines (t-shaped), so they can understand and lead across different categories of design.

In my opinion, the main challenge for a design manager involves balancing the design vision with user preferences and business requirements. Additionally, managing the expectations of all stakeholders can also be a challenge, and one must be flexible to accept feedback for the improvement of design and user experience.
