It’s a bit tricky situation as the value of “speaker net worth” goes down if you are laid off or don’t assume the position you have been doing. The effort becomes triple - if one is already in speaking then needs to sharpen that with professional classes and certification e.g. Toastmaster - monetise on speaker - need to build knowledge infrastructure on a particular domain - seize the existing pool of connects and contacts and drive organic traction - suggest than being generic speaker try to harness skill on domain champion speakership so audience knows the expertise one holds ; evidence based - release podcast or web videos in short reels or videos and do some paid boosting on LinkedIn or other social media to gain awareness

Be prepared and willing to learn. Don’t pander and remain authentic. One thing I’ve learned as an emerging professional is that nothing is for certain, in any industry. Sometimes you have to reimagine and reconstruct what’s considered “normal”.

One example, as I have been told by others, is that I am asked to speak publicly because I do not speak as THE expert but as a fellow learner. My techniques create “space” for others think and consider what they are learning or want to adopt or change. Second though is that I make it “safe”for any of us, the speaker and the audience, to make a mistake and many opportunities for small mistakes exist. Let the audience know that they and you, the speaker, are permitted to make a mistake and learn from it. So advertise that you are flexible, ready to learn from your audience, and provide clear and applicable techniques. A variety of audiences will engage.
