I think everyone who has a had a career of more than ten years in a particular domain will experience some kind of lay off. Experienced professionals are familiar with this sort of loss. I think it’s important to highlight what one did after the lay off and not get bitter about the loss. For example I took on coaching other people who were experiencing a job loss when I was laid off. It not only lifted my own spirits but gave me an outlet to create community. It’s almost important not to associate any negative emotions with the event and stay objective about it.

The above 5 points are GREAT! Here's one way to put them all together: Go to a Career One Stop office or local job club where job searching strategies are covered. Be sure to have both the job announcement and the resume with you. That way someone there can be a fresh second set of eyes to see if you really are addressing the potential employer's needs clearly enough.
