What do you do if you're unsure which specialization to choose within life coaching?

I would start by reflecting on my passions, strengths, and experiences to identify areas of genuine interest. Then, I would research various coaching niches, considering market demand, potential client needs, and personal alignment. Exploring introductory courses or workshops in different specialties could provide insight and clarity. Seeking guidance from experienced coaches or mentors in the field can also offer valuable perspective and advice. At the end of the day, I would trust my intuition and choose a specialization that resonates with me authentically, knowing that I can always adapt and evolve as I gain more experience and expertise.

Doing market research requires getting potential clients' pulse and understanding their needs through their writings in social media or by means of their personal testimonials. It is essential to keep all your senses alert, as to what is written, said or heard. Try to find consistencies in your market research, for example if the subject of depression frequently comes up in the discussions. Then once you discover trends, elaborate on whether there is a matching to your personal skills and experiences. In this way, you will manage not only to grasp society's needs, but personalize your niche with a feeling of understanding to your clients - "you have been there too".

Choosing a specialization in life coaching? If you're unsure, getting feedback and guidance is crucial. Why? Because we often can't see our own blind spots. Seeking advice early on can accelerate your growth. Think of it as "walking your talk." By hiring a coach for yourself, you not only gain clarity but also demonstrate integrity, a key value in this industry. A coach can guide you, helping to identify areas you're naturally drawn to and where you can make the most impact. Remember, in life coaching, integrity isn’t just important; it's everything.

Much of conventional thinking doesn't easily apply to coaching. Begin with where you already have some credibility –?either because of your experience and background or because you can easily and quickly help solve the big problem in that niche. Then make a freebie and an "easy-yes offer" that solves a pressing problem people are already talking about. Then, get into the market, offer the freebie, go live on social media, and start having conversations. This will help you validate the market quickly.

The problem with any term is everyone has their own definition - the question asked about “life coaching” and yet based on my understanding of life coaching some of the responses were about coaching more generally. So by all means pick a niche - but explore the niche and ensure you understand what that means to you then you can start to explain it to potential clients. Similarly your ideal client may say they want a life coach and yet you don’t resonate with the term and whilst you’re perfectly able to meet their needs their use of the term sets off a whole load of unhelpful thoughts within you. So do get clear on what others might call what you do and make your peace with it.
