In the age of AI, your network & what excites is going to be your secret sauce to hedge against the market as well as increase your employability. One needs to understand what's happening in the industry & get guidance from experts in the field to constantly improve. The future of work is going to be about portfolio of work & that would start with internship at times, one needs to leverage what they have, what excites them & network with people who are going to support you on this journey

Of the hundreds of interns I've hired over the past 18 years, many of them were unclear as to their exact career trajectory at the time, and even some who thought they were clear ended up pivoting. If you are still exploring what you may want to do, career-wise, you'll want to look for opportunities to cross-train with other teams or volunteer for intra-functional projects. A good organization understands that interns are at the company to learn as well as to perform, and will hopefully encourage and foster a curious individual's desire to maximize exposure.

--> Reflect on your work output What tasks did you enjoy? What were you good at? what output was very valued (vs. not valued) by the senior management team? --> Get external feedback Sr. peers in the industry may help you with precious tips or provide an "out-of-the-box" perspective that can help you see your path from a new perspective --> Research the industry trends Understand how much AI and new technologies may disrupt your space. Ensure your new path can help to future-proof your career --> Listen to advice but stay true to yourself Be selective with your feedback sources: you can neglect casual feedbacks from outside your network vs. value the inputs from industry mentors and influencers.

Our best interns are usually the ones who are willing to ask questions and dig a little deeper. There is a mindset to going into each day seeking opportunities to ask questions of teammates, managers, mentors, trainers, and executives. My advice is for interns to have a few "go-to" questions at the ready. "What is a recent project you worked on that you were really excited about?" "What do you enjoy most about working here?" "When you started working here, what surprised you the most about the organization that a new employee would want to know about?" "I'd love to hear more about your role. What skills do you think you use most often?" Follow-up questions can evolve from there. Be willing to ask questions when you can.
