LinkedIn is a very helpful resource for seeking mentorship. There are thousands of potential people across the globe that you could have a quick discussion with. The key is to not outright ask "Will you be my mentor?" Find a common point of discussion between you two. Is the Statistician, Data Scientist, Data Analyst that you are reaching out to working in a domain that you have interest in? Talk about that when you send a message to them. Maybe even start with a non-work related topic (perhaps you both like to volunteer at youth centers). You can reach out to both Professors and Industry practitioners on LinkedIn. Doing so will greatly expand the perspectives that you encounter when making the decision to stay in or leave academia.
