What do you do if you're struggling to unlock your creative potential?

One thing I've found helpful in becoming more curious is to create space and a low pressure environment. When you're stressed, impatient, frustrated or feeling pressure you can't relax enough to be curious.

One thing I do and keep in mind is to come to meetings or one-on-one sessions with genuine interest. It also fosters a more empathetic approach to any conversation, and people value it immensely.

One of the best pieces of advice was to separate the brain halves. When I need to be creative and "write" i use otter.ai and dictate my thoughts - that allows me creative freedom and then edit afterwards. Trying to edit while being creative stifles the very creativity we are trying to nurture.

Agreed, a different environment can foster creativity. My favourite recommendations are a walk in nature or a warm shower. Somehow the water running helps to spark creative thoughts.

I see 'space' here as both a metaphorical and literal concept. Creativity needs physical space, and I often invite people to just take a walk to access lateral thinking. It may also just take time and a break. There is a reason why we all say to ourselves to 'sleep over something'. We may also just need physical space. A cluttered work area distracts and suffocates.

You can tap into your full creative potential and unlock new possibilities by creating space for creativity to thrive.

Creating space is letting go. Forget about it. And be conscious. I'm fond of the word (and etymology of the word) Serendipity: finding what you aren't looking for. It's like using your third ear, eye and sense. That means NOT being distracted by endless scrolling in Snapchat, X, TikTok, Insta, that's unconscious distraction.

Once you have done enough research, your brain is primed to see the world differently. This is known as value-tagging in neuroscience. So don't stay in front of the computer but go out. You are bound to find lots of inspiration that is relevant to your project.

Seek inspiration in other disciplines. As an architect, I like to expand my cone of vision by reading, writing, watching a movie, looking at different works of art, taking a trip or immersing myself in a new experience, or learning a different skill. I find this sparks my imagination and gives me new ideas more effectively than focusing narrowly into architecture for inspiration. While you take in those experiences, it’s important to do so for the sake of the experience/learning/pleasure, and not as a means to find a solution to a problem. Inspiration strikes when you’re least expecting it.

A great way to get inspiration is to play, laugh and have fun. You can play a game, laugh at a funny sitcom or dance to your favourite song in the kitchen. These activities create the ideal environment for inspiration to come through.

My biggest inspiration (next to curiosity in general, podcasts, art, music, magazines, newspapers, Google search, nature, history, philosophy, art, power naps) is talking to real people and look in their eyes and listen to their stories. Ask questions to many people, be interested, look for nuances, listen sincerely.

Langsam weiterlaufen hilft sehr, um übung reinzubekommen und einen Schritt nach dem anderen zu machen. Ich kann nur bei mir bleiben und mich ?ndern. Und auch dafür brauche ich Selbstfürsorge. Gesunde Ern?hrung, ausreichend Schlaf, weniger Social Media und weniger Digitalit?t. Achtsamkeit, Dankbarkeit, vor allem Bewusstsein schaffen für mich, was wiederum Klarheit schafft.

Meditate. Bring yourself back to the present moment with breath-work. When no 'thoughts' cloud your mind space, ideas are easier to 'find'.

Try to do nothing. Just go out for a walk, sleep on it, do some doodles...allow yourself to be bored. In those "empty-minded" moments your brain winds down and enables new connections to form, and ideas to take shape.

Your creative potential is always unlocked. Everything you see and feel is you using your full creative potential, it is how you create your perception of the world around you. It is always there. It is always working at full capacity. You are always creating every second of every day of your entire experience. All you want to do is allow that creativity to serve you well. A coach can help you do that, meditation can, other flow state activities (e.g. running, biking, writing) can.

Identify limiting beliefs. Ask yourself what creativity means to you. Then break out of routines, seek inspiration, practice regularly, break down your task, lastly, take breaks and recharge
