What do you do if you're a project manager lacking confidence in taking calculated risks?

To gain confidence about any unknown is first accepting that risks have and WILL always exist! As a PM, you simply need to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all risks that may present during the journey from current state to desired state.And during the project, you may need to take calculated risks in order to optimize outcomes. Generally, most leaders tend to be risk averse, but in order to optimize outcomes sometimes a cost/benefit analysis showcases the value of taking the risk for the larger good. Some different strategies I use are, - Creating a risk register - Conducting a SWOT analysis - Visualizing through a Probability or Risk Matrix - Developing a hierarchical RBS( Risk Breakdown structure ) - Decision tree analysis
