As a new network engineering intern, I'd communicate with my team lead on on site protocols as thy apply to the Network and what revision's can be implemented for upgrading, research various tools and channels to communicate with on site team members for site implantation following existing protocols, such as email, phone, chat, video conferencing, or collaboration platforms. You should use the right tools and channels for different situations, depending on the urgency, complexity, and sensitivity of the communication.

In my experience the major challenge as an intern is to break through the barriers and create a bond with the immediate supervisor. Learn the ongoing industrial trends. Conduct discussions, be curious and keep engaged in constructive discussions with the supervisor and other colleagues/interns. Try to learn and understand their perspective, brain storm ideas and most importantly be honest. Dig into the project at hand and share your ideas, confidence is the key.

Understanding your role and expectations as a network engineering intern is essential. Review your job description, meet with your supervisor to set clear goals, seek feedback regularly, communicate openly, be proactive, stay organized, adapt and learn, and reflect on your performance to ensure success.

As an intern in Networking domain, majority of the basic jargons and acronyms related to the networking domain should be known. Now the next step is to use this knowledge and correlate them with the project at hand. Discuss the with the immediate supervisor and share your ideas. In my experience I found this tip very helpful and it helped me gain my immediate supervisor’s appreciation and acknowledgment.
