Going back to school is a big investment both in time and money. And it's further complicated in a field where academia lags behind industry and formal education doesn't carry a lot of weight. Doing it for yourself, because you want to learn is a great reason. Deep specialization can be another very good reason. Just make sure you know why you're doing it. If career advancement is top of your list, there might be better uses of your time and money.
