What do you do if you're an IT manager trying to adopt agile methodologies?

Start by gaining a deep understanding of Agile principles and values. This includes studying the Agile Manifesto and familiarizing yourself with frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, and XP. You might also want to read up on Lean principles, as they heavily influence Agile.

I agree with the understanding of text. However, I believe that the most crucial aspect is teaching the higher senior management. Agile is part of the culture, and without the support of the higher senior management, you cannot implement it in the department or the entire company. Therefore, based on my experience, I suggest that before implementing it in the IT department, an assessment should be conducted to determine if the methodology truly aligns with the organization and if the IT Director will have the support of the senior management.

This is a huge discussion. But some hints: 1 - Work hard to change mindset of the company AT ALL. If every single person inside of the company is not "on boarded" to this, you will face a lot of problems. 2 - Do workshops of Agile every week, simple round tables with "safe ground" rules. This will improve adoption and help to change mindset from "top-> down" to "coworkers". 3 - Put Agile "masters" to join each team from time to time to have some kinda "check & correct" on teams Agile adoption. Of course teams will have their own "flavor" of agile adoption, but a master may see in between the lines what could cause big issues down the road. 4 - Be resilient. This is a looooooong journey. It will really take time to change mindset. Enjoy
