If I ever get laid off in content development, I would first assess my finances because who doesn't need financial stability? I would also set a strict monthly budget and cut my expenses to manage my finances. Secondly, I would take a few months to sharpen my skills, such as opting for specific certification courses. Third, I would update my resume and let the organization know my skills and experience. I would also remain active on LinkedIn in case of any job opportunities. Until I land a good job, I will freelance. I'll set a more decisive career goal and try to accomplish it with my heart and determination.

Assess your finances and if you have at least enough money for a smooth sailing of next two to three full months then be happy and manage it well. Meanwhile start hunting for a nice job and start freelancing too. Whatever money you have ensure you chunk it down into amounts required to run your household show for a month then put that amount into bank FDs. Doing this will not only keep your money safe until that month but also earn you some interest on it.

Well I’m currently living this. I was laid off from my job on July 1st with no severance pay. The very first thing I did was to cut unnecessary spending (i.e., gym, streaming services, etc). Then I applied for unemployment benefits. The amount I get from unemployment is ridiculously low, so I’ve put myself out there for freelance work to try and make extra money.

Do a generous analysis of self skills along with self introspection. Identify the reason for your lay off. If the reason is your lack of skills then don't worry and start working on upgrading yourself. If the reasons were not about your skills just learn the lesson and move on. Next whatever job you take, but along side plan and start working on a second source of income. In today's fast changing world having only one source of income isn't enough. Also try to start your own freelancing work. But make sure you provide best quality work.
