What do you do if you're faced with a panel interview and multiple interviewers?

To settle the nerves, I find "telling the truth" to be a remarkable mechanism to let the interviewer(s) know how your feeling. The first question in an interview is usually, "How are you?" If your response is, "I'm not a good interviewer, and I'm a nervous wreck, but I really want this position, and this is why..." that allows you to vent your feelings and go straight into why you feel that particular role is right for you. I've done this a few times, and it's amazing how it opens the door for natural conversation and gives the boot to the standard interview format. Give it a try!

This is very common now. Listen to what each person is asking and saying as they all might have a different preoccupation and want to focus on very different aspects of the work. It can be helpful to reformulate back to each person what they are saying to capture each person's attention to what matters to them. I call this part of my 4Rs approach. Nothing beats preparation. Always bear in mind that as an applicant you will be screened. Screening comes in many forms, through examinations of IQ, personality and through validations by interview. When the Company you're seeking employment is a stable organization, you can expect that their screening is structured. This means after passing through HR you can expect series or multiple panel interviews. You must research the Company in advance, study its culture, mission and vision and the targeted position your seeking. Panel interviewers asserts first your confidence, personality, culture fit, and your expertise. Relax, review your notes, be ready to answer questions confidently, its not wrong to validate unclear questions. Make a mark.

Panels to me are no different than teaching a class with all those different people and perspectives. Each question is a new opportunity to engage... Look at them directly...I repeat the question back for clarity to be sure I have their observations correct then proceed ... then I ASK them if they are satisfied or is there a follow up question

Nothing beats preparation. You should not wait until you have an interview to begin to rehearse how you should speak or act. Make it part of you to prepare ahead because you never know when the opportunity will show. Immerse yourself in engaging with people, create dummy scenarios, and learn the skill of responding to one person's questions and addressing all.

From experience, I don't mind panel interviews. I believe they are better because one interviewer may have observed or interpreted something differently. Engaging everyone shows respect for each member. The interviewee doesn't know anymore about the interviewers than they know about them. Skills can be trained. Personality is harder to train or adjust.

Listen carefully and echo (reference ) what another panelists said when responding. Try to tailor your response per person. The goal is to be unforgettable because they are also engaging people who are equally as awesome as you.

Listen to everyone’s responses and add value to what they said, where possible. If you disagree or have a different perspective, that’s okay. State it, but in a classy manner. For example, you could say, “Heather just stated that her experience in the field of cyber security has been constantly evolving, for me it’s been stagnant as I feel I don’t get out from behind my desk enough.” Adding a panelists name to your response shows you are listening and a key contributor.

If you miss something, you could politely ask the question to be repeated to enable you gather your thoughts or structure your response.

One thing I have taught myself was to stop. When you are over stimulated you need to stop and to get yourself "together". Then ask, could you kindly repeat the question.

Make it a person conversation. Too abstract makes it feel mechanical. Even if you feel you didn't hit the mark, stay positive and ask for immediate feedback.

A good follow-up letter after an interview should express gratitude for the opportunity, reiterate your interest in the position, and briefly mention key points discussed during the interview. It's super important to emphasize that you might not have the opportunity to send this letter directly to the people who interviewed you. Nevertheless , forward it to the recruiter and ask for the letter to be sent to the interviewers.

Having an interview with multiple judges especially for your dream position , can be nerve-wracking. From my experience, I start off nervous but then become excited as I engage with the interviewers. It's like meeting a group of strangers and showcasing my best self while also getting to know them. It's similar to socializing, where people enjoy talking about themselves, and it involves sharing stories based on personal experiences. I've always tricked my brain like this, and 99% of the time, it has worked for me. When it doesn't, I like to consider what went wrong and learn with self reflection

If you couldn't, then DON'T PANIC! - During the interview, maintain eye contact with all especially the one who asked the question. Answer with confidence. You must have prepared for this day, right? Address each interviewer when answering each question and actively listen to each interviewer. When answering, try to be concise and clear. Don't forget the confidence. Ask each interviewer if you have answered their question for confirmation. You can use phrases such ad: "I hope I have answered your question" Follow up with a thank-you email after the interview.
