I would focus on data interpretation, data quality and reporting needs to my stakeholders. I would leave behind details such as formulas and programming languages, to switch to how to express the messages the management needs to hear. I would start with the needs themselves: whether we need to track progress, quality etc, together with source, refinement level and frequency. Afterwards, I would gather a team of doers to convert the needs from raw records to information. Keeping an eye on the big picture on a constant basis would ensure me not falling into the trap of wanting to understand what report developers to, which most probably, would come more than once into the path.

As a data analyst manager, your role now has gone from performing tasks to overseeing and supporting a team. You may have been used to handling significant workloads at the junior level, however you must now focus on nurturing and empowering those under your leadership. This means training, coaching, and mentoring a select group of trusted team members who can share your workload and support you effectively. By doing this, you not only aid in the development of your team's skills but it also means you have the time and energy to handle managerial duties such as conflict resolutions, resource allocation and management, as well as optimizing the company's operations.

Los trabajadores expertos en algún área en concreto tienden a ser los ejecutores, la parte operativa. Cuándo uno de dichos expertos pasa a una posición de gestión de equipo, sigue con la tendencia de "hacerlo todo". Esto es algo que he vivido yo de primera mano y he visto posteriormente de personal a mi cargo. El nuevo gestor pasa de ser una parte operativa a ser una parte más: estratégica, de apoyo al equipo y dique de contención contra imprevistos. Por tanto, una de las tareas cruciales de un gestor es delegar. Delegar significa no hacer tareas concretas para que otras personas las hagan, teniendo el mánager la responsabilidad final. Aquí, es importante no hacer micro-gestión y dar autonomía.
