What do you do if you're a career changer seeking mentoring through internships?

When you switch to a field which is completely alien to you, then you might have to learn new skills and tools. So fix the area or field you are trying to switch to and have clear ideas about questions and doubts to ask your mentor. This eventually makes the mentor also make the process a lot easier.

Take this opportunity serious and do your best to find a suitable place. Do not forget about midsize and smaller companies, as they often let you go between departments, showing you how an organization works. Do your research and find out if they had students in the past. Perhaps even a solid program to help you developing your skills. Be clear what you want to get out of this experience and try to communicate those goals with your mentor.

Changing career is not easy it is like to climb a mountain without any equipment hope that once this will pass all will be achieved or life will be at another level. Although internships are a good source of learning specially in a situation where career shift is considered. Looking for internships should be focused that where one can learn alot dealt with scenarios, tasks, responsibilities, work pressure because if you pass the initial stage of your career path then onward you will be strong enough to tackle the aforementioned

You will quickly learn that you will have responsibilities within the organization while also taking care of your own project. Perhaps you even need to help a fellow student with their responsibilities and / or projects. Seek guidance from your mentor, but do not expect to get the answer handed to you. A good mentor will know when you need to figure it out yourself and when to stepping and offer a helping hand. This is the time for you to reach out to your network, to find answers. Learn to balance workload, deal with deadlines and do all this with the safety net of having a mentor at your disposal.

Smile, say hello, and show genuine interest in getting to know your colleagues. Ask them about their work and listen carefully to what they have to say. Don't be afraid to share a little about yourself too! Find common interests or experiences you can bond over. Remember to be respectful and considerate at all times. As you build rapport with your colleagues, don't forget to stay connected outside of work too, maybe grab a coffee or join a work-related social event. Building strong relationships takes time, so be patient and keep putting yourself out there!

As you are someone who switched the industry, you have to learn a lot by constantly upskilling yourself. You might have to make that extra effort to do everything but it is completely going to be worth it.
