Design-wise, drop your assumptions. You know nothing. Forget everything you've seen in science fiction movies, they will often mislead you, as they have done before with the whole industry's Metaverse phase.

In my opinion, having an understanding of AR UX is crucial when it comes to creating groundbreaking AR solutions. - How plane detection works. - How placing objects works. - How the anchoring system works in the physical world. Understanding these key aspects is important.

For creating a groundbreaking AR solutions, need to start by understanding AR deeply, also including its capabilities, limitations, and the latest trends. Make a prototype earlier to gather user feedback and improve your solution. Mainly focus on real-world problems that AR can solve and never be afraid to experiment with different ideas.

Diving into AR presents a chance to shape digital experiences. Immersing myself is key to grasping its potential. I explore interests, envisioning them in captivating AR forms. Ideation is where your initial research will be put into use. The key element of ideation is collaboration. Come together as a cross-functional team to bring in perspectives for your solution. What is the problem that you're trying to solve? What are the capabilities of AR that can solve the problem? How feasible are the solutions? How will the market adapt to the solution? Is the user base ready to utilize the technology? How can you ease the user into adapting to the technology? Since AR is a relatively new technology, investing in user research and user experience will prove to be beneficial.

The key is to focus on a real-world problem that can be significantly improved through an AR-powered solution. This could be in industries like retail, healthcare, construction, or any other sector where AR can enhance the user experience, increase productivity, or enable new capabilities.

Play! Do lots of prototypes. Try different things. Even if a prototype sounds ridiculous , sometimes there's a little kernel of genius in it that you can pick apart and reapply somewhere else.

Stay updated with what's new in tech. Look for everyday problems and use your imagination to come up with awesome solutions. Work with different people, try out your ideas, and see what others think. Remember to think about how your tech might affect people's privacy and society. Finally, show off your work to get feedback and maybe find people who want to help you make it even better.

Ask what is the value of what you are doing . Does the AR element serve a purpose. If its a retail execution, does it accelerate a consumer jounery through the purchasing funnel. If its educational does the end user have an enhance experience as a result. If the answer is that the AR component doesn't add anything then don't do it . AR is incredibly powerful when it is used functionally. Starting a project with AR being the centre because it's shiny or exciting probably isn't the best idea .

Safety first! It is important to consider the space where people will be standing or walking around the experience to make sure the viewing area is safe from any potential hazards.

Design the AR solution with a strong emphasis on user-centric design. Make sure the AR experience is intuitive, responsive, and adds genuine value to the user's workflow or daily life. Continuously gather feedback and iterate to refine the solution.

Before going into the application design and UI, it is really important to consider the context and environment of the target user when designing AR user experiences, especially for outdoor applications. If the target landmark is located in a hot and humid spot, users may find the experience exhausting. Mobile devices may not support unoptimized high battery drainage for high poly rendering apps for prolonged periods. Users may find wearing XR goggles suffocating outdoors. Children may be too carried away with adrenalin, and disregard dangers such as traffic. Many AR applications have brilliant UI designs but risk failing the usability aspect.

As a Designer creating a UX/UI that is so new for most Users, the best I can say is to test often and get a wide variety of User experiences to capture a variety of voices and opinions. Leave yourself open to input and design for a scalable and open-ended visual/audible design system.

Always prioritize the user's perspective over your own. While you may understand how the app works since you designed it, focus on creating an experience where even a first-time user can navigate it correctly and fully appreciate its features

I've done AR unsuccessfully 14 years ago and my first successful project was 12 years ago. My key challenge is and will always be the limitations relying on a mobile device and its processing capabilities, as well as AR's less than stellar performance outside buildings. If anyone truly wants to do innovative AR work today, try experimenting with creative tech installation work within an enclosed space that has better hardware and wifi support. Hope this is useful.

Innovation is like a video game: you need to finish one level at a time. There is a big boss at the end of each level and sometimes you don’t finish him on the first try. You need to fail and learn each time your getting killed and get better. Once you kill the boss, you go to another level with an even harder boss. In 2012 we created a mobile AR marketing campaign for Norway's largest dairy producer Tine. It was recognized internationally (Cannes Lions shortlist) and a success in terms of reach. At the time AR campaigns required a bespoke app and a physical marker image, creating a barrier for use. The app was fun, interactive and informative in that tiny cows talked directly to you in the dialect of the region you purchased your milk carton, telling the story that milk was now short traveled and regionally produced.
