The current narrative around Consultation work is that somehow, in your basic wisdom, you are smarter than most people. This is false. You need to make sure you are worth your salt, have a track record of work, have actual value to offer. Most people go into the Consultation field with zero experience because they see kids from McKinsey or similar charging crazy figures for their services. Unless you are from McKinsey, I suggest avoiding that. Make sure you have something you can deliver. Something you can help with. Areas you can diagnose. Otherwise you're no different to someone leaving a comment on LinkedIn.

I would urge a little caution here. Your clients are going to be looking towards you as an expert, so you should have expert knowledge, not simply in technology, but also know how to solve their problems which may run the gauntlet from staffing to compliance, funding, licensing, introductions, or partnerships. In other words, you cannot read a book on LLMs and then decide that you are a consultant.
