What do you do if your writing performance is hindered by outdated industry trends and standards?

Alvin Toffler said, "the illiterate of 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn". So I think to keep the writing style updated, it is necessary to follow the recent trends. Read the latest blogs, magazine and articles and try to implement those in your writing. Join different writer's groups and ask for a feedback. Don't hesitate to incorporate the changes and to revise the writing style.

You need to see what's cool!!! At different times, different thing is needed. You need to see if the way you write or what you write is acceptable. Need to read the latest posts of top writers and review their work.

You can always update!! Something new can always be added to the arsenal. Knowledge never harms. It prepares us. If you can find some courses, do them. If you can find seminars/webinars by the writer in your field, attend them. The more you are ready to update, the more you are prepared.

Networking is always a good thing. Don't feel shy to talk to people who are already in this field. Let's consider the example of LinkedIn. Here, things keep changing, but you will find people whose work is more appreciated. You can even find people who write lengthy text (even relevant) and don't get proper attention. Some people use fewer words but have a huge impact. So, observing their style, and even asking them would help.

Don't be afraid to experiment. If you like a style or phrase, use that, try to make it your own. See if it works with the way you write. Get ready to try new styles. You can put elements and see if it gives you any uniqueness.

If someone is telling you they like your work. Ask them more about it. If someone says they don't like it, ask them what could be improved. Feedback helps to grow. Like, I read somewhere to add white spaces, so I started that. It was a feedback for me. You can even learn from people about new tools or things that can aid you with writing

I don't think this is possible. Even for industries with strict and conservative standards, there is plenty of room to be creative and provocative within those standards. Alternatively, you could ignore them completely, and do something daring and creative. No one will arrest you.
