1 Identify the gaps

Identifying the gaps between your current WMS and your warehouse needs and goals is the first step. To do this, review your key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order fulfillment rate, inventory turnover, and labor productivity. Additionally, you should ask for feedback from warehouse staff, customers, and suppliers on the issues and challenges they face with your WMS. Poor integration with other systems like ERP, e-commerce platforms, and shipping software, limited scalability and flexibility to accommodate changes in demand, inventory, and workflows, lack of features and functionality like barcode scanning, voice picking, mobile access, and real-time data, as well as frequent errors, glitches, and downtime that affect warehouse performance and customer satisfaction are all signs of an outdated WMS.

The most common issues I hear from operators about outdated WMS' include: poor integrations with their sales channels and ERP (leading to delays of 4-6 hours for orders to flow into the system), inability to auto-generate batches for picking, and an inability to leverage automation rules for rate shopping and cartonization. Leveraging an ERP that has a built-in WMS can help address these challenges and keep your warehouse operating at pique efficiency.

3 Implement the changes

The final step in the WMS implementation process is to plan, test, train, and monitor the new or updated system. A project management methodology should be used and roles and responsibilities assigned to the warehouse team and WMS vendor. Additionally, it's important to communicate the changes and benefits to stakeholders. When implementing the changes, best practices include defining the scope, objectives, timeline, and budget of the project; identifying risks, issues, and dependencies; creating a contingency plan; testing the WMS before launch; training staff on how to use the system; monitoring the impact of the system; measuring KPIs; evaluating ROI; and making adjustments or improvements as needed.

Muitas vezes o problema n?o está diretamente ligado a uma falta de atualiza??o do WMS, mas sim em uma falta de processos dentro do armazém. Para garantir o sucesso de uma solu??o de gerenciamento de armazém é necessário que a empresa tenha um alto nível de conhecimento dos processos realizados. Se ela n?o os conhece, o WMS pode ser alimentado por informa??es erradas, ocasionando em um planejamento equivocado sobre o que deve ser realizado diariamente. Antes de pensar na implementa??o de um novo WMS, é importante ter um mapeamento claro de todos os processos, ou buscar um fornecedor que realize este trabalho em conjunto com a implanta??o do software.
