What do you do if your team members lack motivation to achieve their goals?

To fix my team's lack of motivation, I need to find out why it's happening. There could be many reasons, like not knowing what's expected, not getting feedback, not feeling appreciated, having no freedom, or no chances to grow. I plan to use surveys, talk to them, and check in regularly to really understand their concerns. I'll listen with an open heart, without jumping to conclusions.

As a manager of a high performing team - you have to ask three important questions. How much time do I devote to highly motivated high performers? How much time do I devote to those who are not? Is it the best use of my time and effort? From experience - those not self-motivated or high performing can use a disproportionate amount of a manager’s or organization’s time and effort. As a managerial candidate I interviewed said - “I get paid for results. I don’t spend any of my efforts on those without motivation or poor performers.”

We need to encourage cross functional meets / dialogue... That enhances the perspective and employees are able to link their goals with the larger organization goals. Working in silos often brings frustration.
