En mi opinión, si el equipo incumple constantemente el plazo del proyecto es que el plazo no está bien calculado y, por lo tanto, habré realizado incorrectamente mi trabajo, ya que se supone que una de las variables que has debido de tener en cuenta es la disponibilidad de un equipo que de garantías para la consecución de los objetivos del proyecto: plazo, alcance, calidad del trabajo realizado, valor para el cliente. Es por ello necesario evaluar el resto de variables y verificar si estas son correctas: si el equipo cuenta con las habilidades necesarias para ejecutar este proyecto, si el alcance esta lo suficientemente claro, si la propuesta de valor esta bien definida...pueden ser muchas y se debe tomar el tiempo para evaluar cada una.

Most managers think that missing deadlines is a team competency issue. While that is possible, I would put that dead last. Main factors are an undefined scope, unfocused teams (with many other demands fighting for their attention), unmanaged risks, and a lack of constant communication between stakeholders, managers and teams. If you have a constant collaboration between everyone, those issues will became MUCH smaller.

2 Implement corrective actions

Once you have identified the root causes of the missed deadlines, you need to take action to address them. Involving your team and stakeholders in this process and ensuring that everyone is on the same page is essential. You may need to adjust expectations, improve communication, optimize resources, or control the scope. For example, if your initial goals and milestones were unrealistic, revise them and communicate them clearly. If your communication was poor, establish and follow best practices and guidelines for your team and stakeholders. If you lacked necessary resources, assess the skills and availability of your team members and provide them with the tools and training they need to perform their work effectively. Lastly, if scope creep was a factor, document and validate requirements with clients and stakeholders, then establish a change management process to handle changes during the project.

No hay soluciones mágicas: en función de los motivos del atraso habrá que tomarse más tiempo en entender el alcance, generar nuevas habilidades en las personas del equipo, ajustar el equipo para incorporar algún nuevo perfil, incluir controles que permitan garantizar mejor el éxito del proyecto....
