Configuration is the most challenging aspect when you're not adhering to an industry standard; however, the time invested in configuration will yield benefits in the long run. Ensure the rules are established by the team using them! If you're the manager of the team and you're a hands-off engineer, stay away from any tool. You're not the expert; your team is.

Every tool comes with a certain amount of background noise in its detections. Setting them up correctly is a crucial step in their utilization. It's advisable to omit system libraries and other segments you don't intend to oversee. Adjust the settings and switches accurately. Following several iterations, identify and label all instances of false detections.

Configuring your tool should be based on the industry standards and team's taste. A team might have different taste than the industry standards for some reason. What's important is finding the right balance between both. Your team may not want to put unnecessary efforts just to follow a hardcore industry standards. Or you may want to take it slow. Start tuning the tool from softer analysis and move to strict as the project maintenance goes on. This is majorly applicable for existing projects where applying pure industry configs can be a headache. When working on new projects, you may want to consider multiple factors like timeline, project size and complexity and team size. Based on that, you can configure your tools.

While tools can provide valuable insights, it's crucial to remember that they are just aids, not decision-makers. Your human judgment is irreplaceable. When reviewing the results, don't just look at the surface level data. Dig deeper and try to understand the root cause of the issues. This will not only help you solve the current problem but also prevent similar issues in the future. Also, keep in mind that not all issues require immediate attention. Prioritize based on the impact and severity. Lastly, use these tools as a learning opportunity. Every alert, every log is a chance to understand your system better and improve your expertise.

It's quite simple to overlook valuable or significant warning/error. Treat every case as important until proven otherwise. If the issue isn't clear, consider clarifying that portion of the code by rewriting it.

Analysis tools are to analyse the code, and they cannot analyse the domain. Don't try to follow the results blindly. They might not be relevant in some cases. Sometimes, you might follow some team convention to tackle a complex problem than following some complex solution based on industry standards. These tools are to guide. And they are not the perfect teachers. Before accepting the results, ask yourself if it's matching your requirements, worth the efforts, and allowing the team to write efficient code in the cleanest way. You can always go back and tune up or down the configurations to fit your current needs. But don't over simplify the configurations just because you're lazy to fix the obvious issues.
