What do you do if your Sales Operations career feels stagnant and unfulfilling?

If my Sales Operations career begins to feel stagnant and unfulfilling, I would first take the time to reflect on my current role, identifying specific aspects that are causing dissatisfaction or lack of growth, then I would evaluate potential areas for improvement or avenues for advancement within the organization, such as seeking out new projects or responsibilities, pursuing additional training or certifications to enhance skills and qualifications, or exploring opportunities for cross-functional collaboration or lateral moves that align more closely with my interests and career goals, if internal options prove limited.

We all get into ruts sometimes - personally and professionally. It's important to take a step back to think about whether your feelings are a temporary rut or something more permanent. There are many immediate self-care tactics that can help get you out of a rut - some as simple as taking a few vacation days or learning a new skill. If your feelings go beyond a rut, I find it helpful to address the current situation systematically with a journal in hand - similar to how you would analyze your organization at work. Frameworks like SWOT, Pros/Cons, and Odyssey Planning can give your thoughts and feelings some structure. Once your feelings are out on paper, take a break for a few days and come back to them.

First, try to find out if you feel like this because you are stuck or if it is the company that lack growth perspective. Try to lead different projects and, if needed, seek mentorship or training to revitalize your career path. Remember, it's okay to pursue new opportunities that bring you fulfillment

It really depends on the role and the company. Culture plays a big part in a role such as sales operations. The leader of the overall revenue organization is a critical factor. One has to decide if they are in the right organization, have the right leader, or have the right mindset to be in the role. it may not be that sales operations isn’t a fit, it may be the company, the organizational structure, or the culture. Sales operations is also a great role that can lead to other roles, in operations, or on the customer side, or even on the sales side of the organization. Mapping out a career path, and plan is important for everyone, especially those who have aspirations to move into other roles.
