What do you do if your resume includes a failed leadership role?

It is important to be able to speak to failures when they occur. It is rare that you will go through your career without negative situations occurring. Sometimes you takes risks based on the information you have. These might not always work out. As a leader you need to be able to analyze the situation, take responsibility for your actions and speak to the changes you would make given the same opportunity in the future. The key is in the learning and self analysis. You are not the same person you were a 5 years ago, 1 year ago or even a month ago. You are evolving and developing new skills and understandings.

1. Reflect on what happened: - How big of a deal was it? - Who was impacted? 2. Be honest with yourself: - What was your part? - What did you learn? 3. Focus on growth: - Don't place blame. - Be kind to yourself.

If your resume includes a failed leadership role, approach it with transparency and a focus on lessons learned. Briefly address the experience, highlighting any positive outcomes or growth opportunities despite the challenges. Emphasize the actions you took to address the situation and the insights gained from the experience. Showcase how you've applied these lessons to subsequent leadership roles or projects, demonstrating resilience, self-awareness, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Finally, be prepared to discuss the experience openly and positively in interviews, showcasing your ability to reflect on setbacks and leverage them for future success.

Don't blame others or make excuses, but don't be too harsh on yourself either. Despite having so many failures, never give up

In case you want to handle a failed leadership role on your resume here are my points to take note: 1. Lesson Learnt : There is absolutely nothing wrong even if you failed in earlier role but what matters is that what lessons your learnt and make you rady for next offer or job 2. Craft the message carefully: Do not disclose unnecessary things and highight only key points 3.Explain dependency: What caused failure and weather there was any dependency on Business Owners if any and mention that. 4. Most Important is mention achievements: Despite of failure do not forget to mention whatever little or big you had accomplished in that role

If the failure was minor, irrelevant, or long ago, you might be better off leaving it out. If the failure was major, relevant, or recent, you might have to include it, but you can also highlight the positive aspects of your role.

You can also emphasize the skills and competencies you developed or demonstrated as a leader, such as communication, collaboration, or innovation.

Anyone leader who hasn't failed is a leader who has no self-awareness. And, a self-aware leader is a leader who becomes a better leader. Own that failure. You'll be admired for doing so.

You should not dwell on the negative aspects, but rather use the failure as an opportunity to showcase your growth mindset and resilience. You should explain what caused the failure, what you did to address it, and what you learned from it.

Address it honestly but tactfully during an interview if asked. Highlight what you learned from the experience, how you've grown professionally since then, and any positive outcomes or lessons gained. Emphasize your resilience, adaptability, and ability to overcome challenges, demonstrating how you've applied these qualities in subsequent roles or projects. Avoid placing blame or dwelling on the failure, and focus instead on the valuable insights and skills gained from the experience.

You should demonstrate your enthusiasm, passion, and vision for the role and the organization. You should also show how you can leverage your strengths, overcome your weaknesses, and adapt to changing situations.
