One should try using latest technology in sync with the technical advancements for the research work. Make your work creative, engaging and interesting by working and challenging facts available. Discuss about your work with your peers and take their comments in the positive spirit. Cite good references with high impact factor in your publications for better reach. Approach good journals for publication of your research paper and be open to the suggestions and criticism from the reviewers.

In STEM fields, we expect to see some gaps in publication records; it takes time to spin up new projects as you move from PhD to postdoc to first faculty position. If you spend a lot of time focusing on your gaps you lose the opportunity to focus on your publications' quality and potential. You also risk having your interviewers focus on the gap when it never concerned them in the first place (you got the interview, right?). Quickly explain a gap, but don't waste your previous interview time with long-winded explanations.
