The first rule of effective relationship management is not to let it go too bad. If a client or stakeholder is asking for something reasonable that should always be accommodated. If something is not reasonable, explain with effort, dependency, timeline, and cost. When we added a new retail card management a new feature, their VP wanted a second authentication which was not necessary given our first authentication had less than 0.1% false approvals. We explained with reports calls were hung up 90% on the second authentication. When another line of business wanted us to make a few temporary changes in prompts and options we did that at once.
