What do you do if your product engineering team resists change and stifles innovation?

Fear & insecurity r natural & inevitable. Transparent comms with teams, to explain the potential benefits is pivotal. In the design process, PD teams participation is vital, their input will result better solutions & a sense of ownership. Small scale or crude prototyping initially should be tried. This allows everbody to see tangible results & tweak gradually to ny change. Listening actively to the team's concerns are essential & to address them. Understanding their perspective can lead to sols that accommodate both old & new tricks. Being a team lead, never try to to take all credit yourself! Patience & Persistence r the highest virtues of a team lead. Changes take time, showing values & success of the new devpts thru results & feedback.

In the industry the word " Change " brings fear, discomfort etc so better try saying Transition, Transformation etc words in the beginning of the new journey. Understand the reasons for fear by delving into the grassroots, not just what you see and hear. Analyze the deeply hidden reasons for fear and address them.

The best way to help them overcome fear is to show them how the job can be done.Communicating and focusing on points that produce the fear in the production path can also be helpful.Patience and understanding of different options is also good advices in complex projects.

We need to provide psychological safety before encouraging dialogue and open communication. When individuals feel comfortable and trusted, productive open communication occurs. Engage them in generating ideas to solve problems and empower them to take ownership and lead. Work talk isn't everything. Discuss about life, not just deadlines. Coffee breaks and casual talks matter. Friendships form, and teamwork thrives. Invest time on non-work topics that helps to know each other more and keep fears away.

Dialogue is good but if it takes long may have negative impacts in production.The best practice is to understand fast the main problem and propose reliable solutions with confidence with no mar go margins left to doubt.Listen first then find solution fast.If you cant find solution and you have the time go and examine more intensively.Conflicts are inevitable but you must have negotiation skills to turn the game in your side.

An ancient Greek said once" happy is someone who knows history" and Henry Ford said" every product can tell you a story if you know how to read it".Products production history and problems are history and examples are things that must be remembered and stored in an organized folder and recall them when we need them.Team members can be more comfortable and relaxed if guided with a past example case that is forgotten.
