Try to find out if there are data in the organization, that can help you trace the bottlenecks so that you can get closer to user needs.

I think that effective innovation, in today's world, requires a lot of lateral benchmarking apart from just internal assessments. For eg Mutual funds don't have concepts like embedded selling which the insurance companies adopted ages back. I have a slightly different view on the whole process. While it's important to plan and think thru, it's also important to get going fast Before that, we need to create and apply a set of filters that any suggestion would stand for scrutiny. Eg could be things like - will such innovation reduce my cost by x % or increase productivity and quality by y percent etc. I tend to call them somewhat like the Socrates filter test Once we know what gets cleared, we must get started and move. Projects which require multi year efforts should be avoided simply because we don't know what tech disruption can happen when In a nutshell, drive with filters , run with small and medium efforts which have high gains and fail fast if you have to

Everything starts from an idea. You have a clear need now to think about the solutions. Consider time, budgets & many other factors while coming up with solutions. Diversity in the team helps here as they can come up with different suggestions. Don't block any ideas & suggestions. Don't reject it very fast without proper assessment. The more you discuss, the better you can refine the solution ideas.
