Given the unprecedented pace of technological advancement, it is vital to remain updated with the latest developments, best practices, etc. Investing in continuous learning and acquiring relevant certifications are essential steps to deepen your expertise

With respect to gaining experience and hands-on practice, invest in a home lab/sandbox environment and volunteer for pro bono work where you can practice the configurations of networking systems, gain and demonstrate hands on experience, become confident and showcase your abilities.

It is important that you network with professionals and establish professional relationships. You can also capitalize on the contacts you would have had while in various employments as a resource to building your network. Attend networking programs, conferences, etc., that provide insights into emerging trends.

Engage with peers, join network/cybersecurity forums and professional associations, and attend industry events to expand your network. Networking not only exposes you to different perspectives and insights but also opens doors to collaboration, mentorship, and career opportunities. Don't underestimate the power of connections in advancing your career in cybersecurity/network security.

Although your main objective is to transfer your knowledge to someone else, the entire process is mutually enriching because you as a mentor also benefits from it.
