What do you do if your mentee in Entrepreneurship is struggling with time management?

I would bet good money that 90% of anyone's problem is not ruthlessly focusing on the 1-2 most important things and not being organized in those things. Even great entrepreneurs get distracted - it is in their nature to dream and get obsessed with new things. A list of things that don't matter as much as you would think: logos, brand, name, pitch decks, meetups. Things that tend to matter more: shipping product and adding customers. Getting back to what matters, getting organized, and then (after all that) beginning out automate and outsource.

Good time management can go a long way but something that are often overlooked are energy and attention management. If energy is managed well, the same task can take a much shorter time to complete. If attention is not placed on right thing, the business will ultimately suffer. Just as one would track where their time goes, it helps as well to monitor where one's energy and attention go. It helps to have a daily or weekly reflection to look back and reflect if time, energy and focus could have been used differently and what can be done in the new week to incorporate that lesson. Just like time, energy and attention are finite. It's best to use them from the perspective of an investor to maximise return from the use of a limited resource.

Sometimes, Time Management goes beyond difficulty in prioritization, distraction, and lack of planning. A mentee can struggle with time management when they are going through some personal difficulties either mentally or emotionally. This can hold them back and make them procrastinate, stop them from having a clear vision and mission, planning, and a lot of other things. So, I will first have a dialogue about how they are doing personally. What's bothering them and help them navigate that? Then, I will come to their mission, vision, skillset, execution style, and work ethics and help them outline all of this in written form as when they write it down, I will get clarity of the root problem which gives me the direction of helping them.

Les mentorés ont tous des problèmes de temps. Ce pourquoi d'ailleurs, il est important d'élaborer une proposition qui mobilise le minimum de temps pour un maximum d'impact. Car, ils auront des priorités business... et personnelles (santé, vacances, obligations familiales)

Je partagerais les bonnes pratiques de la gestion du temps : -Time blocking : bloquer des créneaux pour des taches spécifiques et du deepwork (sans distraction) -Organisation et communication avec les équipes : communiquer en amont avec l'équipe sur les créneaux sur lesquels je suis disponible. -To do list : un grand classique mais super efficace pour alléger sa charge mentale en prenant des notes sur papier.

I had to take a slightly different direction here. I will share my journey, the struggles, my experiences, my work ethic, and my execution style. Then, I will help my mentee understand what works for them as when someone follows their natural path, doing anything becomes easier. Understanding what their skills are, and their limitations (and how to address them through collaboration, bringing in new talent, delegating, and expanding their skills). Also understanding their work ethics- what time are they more active on so that they can lock that time just for execution. I will address the importance of writing their daily to-do list and putting them into the level of urgency and importance to help them execute accordingly.

La souplesse. Il y a des jours où on est peu productif. Et des jours beaucoup. Etre souple, c'est la meilleure des qualités. Si on donne de la valeur avec force, alors, naturellement, les mentorés vont interagir. Une des solutions est de passer de mises sur agenda à la réponse aux sollicitations

Le plus important dans un accompagnement c'est créer une flêche du temps. Soit, donner de la valeur mais aussi montrer que le futur continue à être construit. Et donner donc à la fois des To Dos et des questions ou des thèmes pour le workshop qui vient juste après : cela motive à ce que le client vienne.
