What to do if your marketing efforts as a Peer Support Consultant are falling flat? This certainly can happen and does in the business world especially if you are working with many clients/customers. My first thought is that it's time to consider changing my message which is not being received. Apparently, it is not as clear as I thought, compelling nor did it speak directly to the needs and challenges of the client. That is in itself a challenge however once I realize it's a change that needs to be considered the process is exciting because my attitude changes along with the words! Being open minded and willing to make changes is wisdom and it's worth it's weight in gold. This begins the process and guess what? The system works!

I would put more effort into revision of the marketing. Ensure my message is clear and is directed exactly to the audience. Understanding the challenges of the peer and the struggle of peer support. Create a more thorough understanding and stronger relationship.

Where do we need to increase productivity — and to what levels — by next year, three years, five years from now? What tactics will combine to lay down a realistic path to the targets? Do we have the right structure, operating model, and senior leaders engaged to enable these gains?

I think revising message is essential. Adding the right word s, delivery, tone and people (ads, hashtags, people tags) can make the world of a difference. And also create a new marketing lane for your message to travel in.

Get in touch with the customer personas you're trying to reach, a lot of the marketing mismatch could be in your languaging, approach, and how the brand voice is being communicated. You will need to adjust your strategy to focus on bringing value. Try to A/B Split test as opposed to falling in love with one means of getting to the goal. Increate your collaboration approaches and partner with others who are serving your target better but in a different way than you are. Solicit feedback from prior clients, what made them come onboard, what resonated, hone your strategy to what adds value from your target's perspective - not just company points you want to speak to!

It is often said that if you want to learn something, study as though you will be teaching on the subject. As far as analyzing advertising that is not getting the results you desire, create an advertisement that would attract “you” to want to learn more and ultimately buy.

Ask yourself... "Where are my market" - If you're approaching leads in the wrong place or setting, you'll be burning opportunities and wasting resources. Rethink where you are approaching leads and trying to create opportunities. If you're strong on one platform or network, find others like it. Try to spend more time in places where you have the strongest results and double down. In the places where you only have some success, use email marketing to warm those leads so you are not spending time in lukewarm spaces. No matter what you need to develop a strong word-of-mouth and referral base. Go back to prior clients too and really understand where they congregate.

In such cases always find where the problem lies. Re-assess your target audience, message, value proposition, networking channels, marketing channels (include or exclude), and customer/client feedback. Going through these areas you can find where the strategy or content is lacking. Be flexible to adapt and accept the changes with current marketing and audience trends.

It can help to ask colleagues what their own challenges have been, and what has helped in overcoming them. Have there been particular trainings that have been helpful? What do they consider best practices?

Think about the law of reciprocity. What you do for others will come back to you. If you provide value for others, they will provide value to you. The more you network, the more opportunities you have to impact others.

Also try doing some kind of 'Office Hours' where you can give advice and insights from a expert perspective to solve issues your target market has. This can set you apart and YOU can become the defacto consultant of merit that people check for answers, and trust to work with when there's a need.

Be consistent with the GOAL but flexible with the HOW you get there. It's going to be that consistency, follow-up, showing up and bringing value - even being known for value that will make a huge difference over time. Whatever campaign you launch, expect to need to be consistent for 6-8 weeks, don't expect to turn a big ship in a week. Be consistent in the branding and messaging - keep attracting, and push out testimonials as a normal part of what you do.
