The first and the far most important thing is to Stay Positive and Persistent. Next is to make an honest Self-assessment; look for blind spots. Another important assessment is to seek feedback from peers and supervisors which will determine the weakness and lack of visibility. Make your work and efforts visible to all; volunteer for high-impact projects and take part in critical thinking and discussions. The leadership always looks for people's champion or people's person to be recognized first and most often as well.

Those you lead need to be informed of the organization’s mission. In the Army, everyone has to be informed from Highest to junior Soldier. Great communication within an organization is a win win for everyone.
