What do you do if your job responsibilities have increased but your salary hasn't?

I once had a friend whom I usually hang out with, to have lunch. On one of the occasions, she shared a story about what was happening to a colleague of hers, who used to be a very jovial fellow. It was about having more responsibilities on his job with no salary increment. It was affecting the colleague so much and she was thinking of how to help this colleague of hers. After listening to her, I suggested that she should tell the colleague to first access the responsibilities and evaluate every aspect of the additional responsibilities, to have detailed facts with which to engage with the employers constructively.

Yes, you must have some background information about the salary before formulating expectations and negotiating about the same. It has to be realistic and and supported by some evidence before discussing the same. So try collecting enough information to formulate a strong argument.

Provide context by explaining what triggers the issue, like business growth or staff shortages. Highlight the impact on business: reduced productivity, increased errors, employee burnout, loss of staff etc. Discuss the possible ways to resolve it, including hiring more staff, investing in technology to streamline processes, outsourcing tasks, or training staff. Outline the potential benefits of reducing high workload, including increased productivity, better employee retention, improved job satisfaction, etc. Finally, present financial analysis showing the cost of the problem & the potential gain from the solution.

I've been exactly in such situation - more responsibilities without any financial compensation.. My colleague left company and manager informed me I'll start acting on his position asap. Position was 1 step higher. Also, I was told nobody will substitute me on my previous position and I have to combine both new and old.. , 50/50%. No financial compensation is planned, you have to be proud because of 1 step up in your career. I can accept or leave. I decided to stay, calm down and try. It took me about 6 month to understand ,,the basics,, and stop making silly mistakes, and finally succeed. Important: Everything what is happening is EXPERIENCE. It makes us stronger and prepared for the future ,,inconveniences,, and, definitely new jobs! ;)
