What do you do if your internship in Process Design is riddled with common mistakes?

First of all, don't obsess! This happens every once in a while for almost everyone. it's all part of the learning process! Instead of seeing mistakes as setbacks, view them as opportunities for growth and improvement.

Let's first review together and identify the mistakes. Once we have done that together I will give some feedback to guide him in order to understand where can be improved. Explain that we all can learn from our mistakes. Maybe then show some best practices int that area. Ask lots of questions to make sure he understood and know how to correct. If necessary indicate some additional training available in the same area. Maybe talk about the need for attention to details. At the end motivate him to keep learning and be available if he needs any assistance.

It is essential to stop and think when you make the same mistake over and over again. The first thing you should do is conduct some research to wiggle out of whatever rut you're in. Find out how other experts keep from doing what you're doing and how they control this kind of situation. However likely it is that you might come up with an answer that skilled people in your field haven't thought of, it's a sure bet that there are already answers out there that will work for you. Second, ask for help. You may be overlooking some resources that are right in front of you. Consult other people in your field to find out what they do.

Don't focus on the errors. Instead, try to identify the root causes of the mistakes and reflect on what went wrong. Seek feedback from your supervisor or your peers.

Process design is a field of continuous learning. Implementing a risk assessment approach is essential. Once you establish this method as a routine part of your work, it will consistently enhance your outputs.

Take proactive steps to address any gaps in your knowledge or skills through self-study, training, or seeking guidance from experienced professionals.

Consolidating your basic foundation is very important, especially at the beginning when the interpretation of "how to" is constantly changing. Using principles like PDCA or Kaizen basics could give you a continual improvement perspective.

Acknowledging that mistakes can occur not only in the application of the process but also in the process design itself is a valuable insight. Optimizing your outputs involves continuously improving processes to enhance their value.

Maintaining a risk register, or even a simple journal, can be very helpful. If you don’t record things, you are more likely to repeat mistakes. We are human, and we often need to repeat actions over and over until we establish good habits.

From my experience internships by design should be a place to learn and riddled with mistakes. It's all part of the process, my advice would be to do your best to ask questions and learn from those mistakes.
