Before you can generate creative ideas, you need to clearly define the problem you are trying to solve. What is the purpose of your industrial design project? Who are the users and what are their needs and preferences? What are the constraints and requirements of the project? By answering these questions, you can narrow down your focus and scope, and avoid getting overwhelmed by too many options.

Creativising your problem or need identification space, involves having or developing the following abilities: 1. Clearly identifying: problem, needs, sub problems to solve and specifying this 2. Critical thinking, to see what works and doesn't. Being able to see issues with what's there or before 3. Breaking existing product design semantic categories 4. Flexibility, assuming that in specification 5. Assessing initial feel of what various stakeholders expect 6. Encouraging open mindedness, with a wider problem-need space 7. Establishing material and manufacturing limits, to allow for clearer creation/solution space 8. Disrupting with fun, cheekiness and confidence as a vibe 9. Differentiating unique needs from existing ones

To revive creativity in an industrial design project, I try to research for new ideas and share my thoughts with others with different specialty. Also I try to engage in creative activities like sketching and educational workshops. Learning from experiences is best way to inject fresh innovation into the project.
If you are stuck while designing a product there are three things you might want to do: 1. Don't be afraid to go back to the research. What might have you missed? What wasn't addressed more in-depth? Don't be afraid to go back and dig deeper with your subjects or interviews. 2. How did you frame the problem? Were you too specific in the definition? For example: you might have asked how might we create a better desk. While a better question is how might we improve surfaces for work? The first, limits your focus to tables opens to options on the experience. 3. Rest. Literally. Go for a walk, play with your kids, let your mind work in the background. Hemingway used to sit over a fire and burn orange peels until he found the 'truest thing'.
Research is essential for any industrial design project, as it helps you understand the context, the market, and the existing solutions. You can use various methods to conduct your research, such as online sources, books, magazines, interviews, surveys, observations, or experiments. Research can provide you with inspiration, insights, and data that can inform your creative process and validate your ideas.

Cada etapa del viaje está representada por una ubicación diferente, desde "Contexto" hasta "Soluciones Existentes". While research might seem to limit creativity through plagiarism, copying or fitting in. Research helps establish what has been done and has not. Research can be used this way to establish a comparison baseline, against which to compare, improve or work with. Research can also inspire change. This can apply to mechanism as much as shell or form. Complexity of designs also requires research of aspects of a design. As an example ergonomics and psychology always reveals user needs or limits. Ie. in car design, the limit of human reaction time, should tell you safe driving is impossible. This should stimulate creative solutions, ranging from safety tech, integrating tech, distraction limiting, better control and awareness systems
Once you have pinpointed the problem areas, dive deeper into research. Look at similar products in the market, study design trends, and analyze what competitors are doing. This can provide a fresh perspective and inspire new ideas. Additionally, academic research, design publications, and case studies can offer insights into novel materials, technologies, and methods that could be adapted to your project.

El cerebro no se hace creativo si no hay esfuerzos mentales en la solución de cualquier cosa. La investigación, en especial, del proceso paso a paso para la elaboración de productos o subproductos, va por etapas, como buscar información de plantas industriales de productos similares; y una siguiente etapa es la investigación de los equipos y tecnologías disponibles para cada proceso. A mi parecer son dos faces de investigación. Si el producto es innovador, requerirá de la investigación para superar lo que se parece y a partir de allí desarrollar la innovación, esto es donde debe emerger la creatividad.

Brainstorming is a technique to generate as many ideas as possible, without judging or filtering them. You can brainstorm alone or with others, using tools such as sticky notes, mind maps, or word lists. Sketching is a way to visualize your ideas and explore different shapes, forms, and features. You can sketch on paper, on a tablet, or on a computer, using simple or detailed drawings.

Brainstorming in ideation, is a way to expand the creative possibility set (divergent process), ready for concept design (finals), detailing or prototyping (convergent process). This is a personal style thing. Gestalt sees the designer see possibilities as they sketch forms, map out systems or variations in a wide possibility set. It is useful to categorise ideas by themes and is a skill in itself. A creative conceptual design process is stimulated by the designer's lateral thinking, their self belief and their ability to envision possibility. Communication of possibility, to self and/or others is essential. If this includes usage, form changes, function, mechanism and manufacture. Creativity should flow. Personal flare is critical too

Los proyectos industriales generalmente son desarrollados por profesionales de distintas disciplinas de la ingeniería. Cada miembro tiene su propia visión del conjunto. Desde la individualidad es reducido el número de posibles ideas. La lluvia de ideas tiene sentido cuando cada miembro de cada disciplina forma parte de la nube que lloverá las ideas, cada uno tiene su propio sesgo que podría ser beneficioso. Desde distintas formas de ver un mismo problema se pueden generar roces en una primera etapa, pero en la medida que van emergiendo ideas el cerebro se va sincronizando con el resto. Las lluvias de ideas también deben ser una herramienta mental que favorece la creatividad.

Based on the feedback, you can iterate your ideas, which means to modify, improve, or refine them. Iteration is a key part of the creative process, as it allows you to test and optimize your solutions.
Each Project has a goal which is set by a group of people. The initial idea is a dynamic existence that evolves through the process of implementation. Seeking feedback not only from the team & customers but also from people outside of the project can lead to wider perspective from a completely different mindset. End-users are a valuable source of information and unfortunately underestimated in many cases. Just thinking how different the end-users are, can lead to amazing iterations of the initial idea. (Add braille for blind people, add safe features for children etc.) Feedback is like a switch for a new idea to pop up and elevate the initial concept and should be accepted as a creativity stimulus rather than judgment.

Cualquier trabajo de dise?o, implica moldear una idea, manejar alternativas, desarrollarlas, buscar opiniones, analizarlas antes de continuar. Reiniciar una idea que resuelva todos los problemas. La realización de alternativas es una forma de iterar, lo que no se debe es repetir. Cada alternativa debe ir mejorándose, siempre considerar la posibilidad de intrusión en otras disciplinas, consultando con ellas. Los procesos industriales son una cosa; los procesos mentales de donde sale la creatividad es otra.
Sometimes, you might need to break out of your routine and try something new to spark your creativity. You can do this by changing your environment, such as working in a different place, taking a walk, or visiting a museum. You can also try a new activity, such as learning a new skill, reading a different genre, or playing a game. These changes can stimulate your brain, expose you to new stimuli, and trigger new associations and connections.
When I hit a block, I find that changing my surroundings can spark new ideas. Whether it’s moving to a new workspace or taking a brief walk, it helps me see things differently. I also find it helpful to discuss ideas with colleagues. Sometimes, discussing the project out loud opens up new angles that were not apparent before. Navigating creative hurdles is part of our journey. It’s about finding what works to refresh your creative energy.
Finally, fostering a work environment that encourages risk-taking and values creativity is crucial. This can be achieved by maintaining a positive atmosphere, rewarding innovative ideas, and allowing time for creative pursuits unrelated to the project. Sometimes, stepping away from a problem or engaging in different types of creative activities can provide the breakthrough your project needs. By systematically addressing the lack of creativity in an industrial design project through these steps, you can inject new life and innovation into your work, ensuring that the final product is not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also truly innovative and tailored to meet the needs of the user.

Finally, you should not forget to relax and have fun in your industrial design project. Creativity can be hindered by stress, pressure, or fear of failure. Therefore, you should give yourself some time to relax, unwind, and enjoy yourself. You can do this by meditating, listening to music, watching a comedy, or doing anything that makes you happy. Relaxing and having fun can reduce your anxiety, boost your mood, and enhance your creativity.

Better avoid this kind of mindset if your products/projects/services should have some other criteria for determination of it's value (for example ergonomics, some sort of sustainability or other features/properties). Creativity is required to achieve goals, it's an instrumentation.
