When starting out as a freelancer, your income may potentially be inconsistent until you don't have a steady flow of clients or you're digital products may not be bringing in consistent income. I teach my mentees to ask the agency they are working for to be put on a retainer, similar to a lawyer. This helps your income become more consistent. This can also be a very cost effective option for the company you are working with. I also teach them how to package their expertise and service offerings in bundles instead of offering individual services. If a client chooses a package that last 6 months you can group similar or related services together that can help them at various stages of their growth and transition as a company.

Network and net worth sound very similar, because they often go hand in hand! Social capital is actually an underrated aspect of social work that makes us the unbelievable forces we are! When you expand your network, you’ll learn about more opportunities, and the stakeholders that have access to them. Then you can exchange knowledge, connections, referrals, insight, and other aspects of wealth! This could result in collaboration, program, and intervention development. Not to mention, increased capital. Don’t short yourself or the communities you serve! Get to know other professionals within the social work field or change agents apart of different disciplines. You never know what can come of your relationships.
