As a designer, it's most important for one to understand the requirement of the target we're dressing up, what occasion it is, the practicality and their comfort. Being honest with the designs is a must. If we've achieved the above, inclusivity is guaranteed.

For those who went the academic route, I'd encourage you all to spend time, real time, making custom garments for the widest array of friends and family members you can. Two people, who are the same size, will want a garment to behave differently. This real-life, practical application of sizing will give you more feedback than any theory, survey, or academic exercise. If you have the ability to follow up with clients who are buying your work off the rack... do it. Be specific about the quesitons you ask. Open ended questions won't work. You can change the questions on a regular basis. The more specific your questions, the more specific, and useful, the feedback will be.

When we think about design inclusivity I think we must consider fabric types… just simply making clothes big enough is not the one. Certain fabrics won’t suit bigger people and certain ones won’t suit smaller people… It’s about making the clothes for the intended audience and then marketing them for them… using models that reflect the people who you want to wear them in an intentional way. As a fashion designer, you have to consistently educate yourself on the fashion trends. Fashion is trendy, it's changing every season. Understand the new season and position yourself.

How much retooling do they need to do when changing sizes? How much work can be shared across sizes? What is THEIR process? Ultimately, you are becoming an advocate for your clients and making sure that your work is sized as you intened it.

Work with stylist so they can tell you what their clients are saying… the conversations that are not directly asking for opinion often share the most realistic opinions of a brand. This is the challenging part that will best be served by looking at demographics and your sales breakdowns. What sizes are you selling most? If you are constantly running out of size 8, then why are you designing size 2 and scaling from there? Design the most common size first, and get your money-maker out there. Then, circle back and re-design for the other sizes and actually get those out in to the world too! The word will get around that you are making clothing that fit. People talk. If you are fulfilling their needs, they will tell their friends.

Making loyalty packages and better results available. People will be willing to pay more if they believe that every single outcome is the ideal one for them.

Diverse sizing is important factor in design fashionable clothing. Not all women are samplesizes. All women want fashionable clothing no matter what age or size.

The diversity of brands existing in the apparel industry, give the potential of target marketing as it relates to sizing. Donna Karan brand, known for fuller fits, deftly uses fabrics in styles that were flattering on the customer. Typically, big & tall category, always factored grade rules - knowing where the increments change, to obtain realistic size range regarding various body proportions. Best fits, use fabric qualities with construction techniques for the design to sit and fit properly. Always to be considered, is the general body types across countries. As a designer, my sizing choice is based on the target customer of the brand, and the leeway intrinsic of a designs to be able to suit larger, taller physiques.

Inclusive designs acknowledges and respects all body types and sizes . It can be an Adaptive clothing for any special need or can be Gender and size neutral garment . As a design process every designer makes a story board , concept board, Style board and a client board apart from Inspiration, Mood and Colour board. So , every design process starts with the clarity of who is the client and what’s the concept of styles and range of garments that a designer is looking at . If a designer is looking at Inclusivity in terms of size or gender or any other special need it has to be designed in a particular way from the beginning with targeted design development of inclusive clothes for a particular special need .

My jewelry is inclusive and always has been except for possibly the current prices. I am working on that but the rising cost of materials and production makes it hard to maintain high quality at lower price points.

Own it - stand firm that that’s what your brand is about, don’t claim to have diverse sizes if you don’t go above a particular size
