What do you do if your creative differences are hindering collaboration in video production?

A produ??o de vídeo é uma área onde muitas pessoas trabalham em uma obra só, e se você n?o é capaz de lidar com o diferente, você perderá espa?o, ninguém vai voltar a trabalhar com você e nem você vai querer voltar a trabalhar com isso, porque n?o vai aguentar ter que seder para ideias alheias. Enfim, saiba escutar, respeitar e desapegar de suas ideias em prol de um ótimo resultado final.

I love that this is the 1st step in this conversation. One of the things I had to learn quickly in my current role was not to get offended when creative differences arise. We can let our own ego get in the way some times, and a humble and open minded approach will always garner better results. I have learned to put myself on the other side of the conversation, and take on the perspective that the person I'm disagreeing with is only trying to make the project better. Once you meet on that mutual ground that both party's that are disagreeing want wants best for the project, then it's a lot easier to come to viable solutions that everyone is happy with. This almost always leads to what is actually best for the project as well.

At the end of the day everyone should understand "the best idea wins" no matter who it comes from. Egos must be put aside for the benefit of creating the greatest possible end result. you can address creative differences by fostering open communication and active listening. Schedule a meeting to discuss each person’s vision and find common ground. Consider compromising or blending ideas to create a unified approach. If needed, bring in a mediator or third party for additional perspectives. Regularly check in with the team to ensure alignment and adjust as necessary. Be open, honest, humble, and remember teamwork makes the dream work!

If you've got the end goals and strategy right then a lot of the creative variables should resolve themselves. Work backwards from what success looks like and if a creative decision compromises the end goal then it's wrong. Make creative decisions based on the results they'll get not how they might look - that's a good way to blow a budget!

It is always a gift to get feedback and other ideas to a creative project. Don’t summarily dismiss other perspectives or ideas to a collaborative effort. Be engaged and listen actively. You never know if it becomes an awarding and rewarding addition. As mentioned good communication is key to a successful endeavor. Keep the lines open for such encouraging behavior.

Spend time together with your crew, go eat, spend drinks, talk about the project. Any kind of time given into this topic is well invested. Any thought you can have beforehand, saves you time while shooting. Explain your vision, not only about the creation but also about how you see the cooperation inbetween. Be open about your feelings and insecurities. Communicate, how you want them to behave. Let them know what to expect.

You see this done well in sports, the whole team doesn't have to see eye to eye but their end goal is to win and that allows them to work together as a cohesive unit.

In my experience, it’s crucial to go into any production knowing what creative choices you will fight for and what you can let go. You don’t want to be known as someone who turns everything into a battle. If you are known as collaborative and willing to compromise on most things, people will really pay attention when you bring up a creative choice that you are unwilling to compromise on. Your opinion will carry more weight, and you will be more likely to get your way when it truly counts.

1. With a video shoot, time is of the essence. Video shoots are expensive and often on a very tight schedule. To head off disagreements, do a pre-interview with video subjects and collect information about the facilities you'll be shooting in. Make sure to circulate and socialize this information before the shoot. Nonetheless, differences occur, and shoot sometimes have surprises. In the case of a schism, let the parties each state their point of view with the crew. Often, just this step is enough to reach a workable compromise. And if not, do a quick hand of rock-paper-scissors, and here's why: you'll get the reaction from the entire crew, who are having a gut response, which is usually the right one.

Tendo isso definido, o líder, ou Diretor, vai ter muito mais facilidade de lidar com as diferen?as criativas pois esclarece quem é o tomador de decis?o.

Positive communication and sharing of creative ideas is paramount. Check your ego because sometimes better ideas walk in the door from people who are NOT YOU. That said, creative video production, like art, should not be the work of a committee. Art by committee is usually bland. Safe. Someone needs to OWN THE VISION and MAKE THE FINAL DECISION. Know who that is at the start of the project and respect it throughout.

Agree with you @Laura Pair wholeheartedly. Creative by committee or consensus often results in mediocrity. Not a recipe for success.

Defining roles is a much more accurate answer to this because, a team comprises of people with specific responsibilities. I would always go with a Supervisors/creative directors call who has been assigned to provide creative guidance on the project. Different projects have difference designations and workflows. Production needs to understand the roles and step in when necessary.The production needs to act as a guide towards directing and managing information exchange between the teams accordingly. If there are still conflicts in roles, organise a meeting to resolve the confusion between the team mates. If this is during pre-production, take calls that do not deviate from set budgets and theme/concept of the script.

When running into creative differences during content production, I always find value in bringing in a neutral third-party to weigh-in. Many times, we can get too close to a project and lose the ability to 'see the forest through the trees' so to speak. Bringing in an unbiased third-party is a great opportunity to take a fresh set of eyes to a project and help find common ground or, many times, an even better approach altogether than either of the original competing options.

If disagreements persist, consider seeking mediation from a neutral third party, such as a project manager or creative director. A mediator can facilitate productive discussions, help identify common ground, and guide the team toward mutually acceptable solutions.

Creo que es algo que se aprende con los a?os. La gente nueva tiende a sentirse ofendidos (en su ego) si algo no sale como quieren. Con el tiempo aprendes a aceptar y aprender de todo lo que pasa en el proceso, aprendes que no lo sabes todo y que aunque haya situaciones y proyectos que te hagan sentir que sí, habrá momentos en que no tengas idea. Hay que ser sabio y humilde, saber en qué has fallado y no tener miedo de buscar referencias, aprender o pedir ayuda.

There is no one solve to this, we generally try to achieve a win-win situation, but that's not always the case. Our first approach it to recognize the goal if we can compromise wisely or maybe explore dialogues with client or artist to be on the same page that's our major focus, but most important is to reflect and grow learn from the situation and strategies better solutions

Being open to new ideas without compromising the common goal has been a key. It’s a matter of perspectives that seem to find the common ground- and leave the ego at the door. You’re all working for the same goal with many pathways to achieve it. Embrace the difference communicate the issues. I promise you the outcome is better than both parties could ever could imagine when first starting solo. My two cents anyway.

Be disciplined in all your actions. Discipline is the practice of doing the small task consistently even if they bore you or challenge you. Be willing to adapt and take control of your own limitations by pushing your own boundaries. Be patient with the practice, as the great Mike Tyson once said “discipline is doing the things you dislike like you love them.”

Why is your idea so great anyway? Lotta different ways to tell a story; try something different for a change. Empowering those who you’re collaborating with will only strengthen your story and team.
