If senior professionals notice that you are interested in the subjects, pay attention and often take notes, study and bring doubts about matters in the finance area, they will be more willing to introduce you to new subjects and include you in meetings and dialogues of the team and the company. When it comes to internships, one helpful way to view it is “you are the sponge trying to soak up water.” Water being the knowledge and more importantly, professional connections to help you in your career search. Water will not come to the sponge, the sponge needs to come into contact with water to absorb. Therefore, if you do not seek out opportunities, do not expect desirable results. One way that has helped me find mentors is by finding someone who aligns with one of my hobbies. This way, conversation does not feel forced and you two can network at more places than just work.
