What do you do if your computer engineering performance needs a boost from machine learning algorithms?

To enhance my computer engineering performance using machine learning algorithms, I start by analyzing system metrics to pinpoint areas needing improvement like optimization or anomaly detection. Collaborating with data experts, we design and train ML models tailored to address these challenges. This involves preprocessing data, selecting features, training models with algorithms like regression or deep learning, and rigorous testing. I also focus on scalable ML infrastructure using cloud services and parallel computing for handling large datasets efficiently. Continuous monitoring and model refinement ensure sustained performance enhancements, aligning with evolving engineering needs.

First and foremost: Machine Learning is not classic programming. Be ready when there are cases where the code is perfect, everything works but still the job is not done as the model shows bad performance. The second one is that there is classical algorithms and Neural Networks. Classical algorithms work well with tabular data while Neural Networks aimed at processing unstructured, complicated and NLP/Audio/Vision data. The third is Math. You can't become a really good Data Scientist / Machine Learning Enginner if you do not know the math underlying the layers/NN architectures

You also need to understand if the problem you’re solving requires a “linear” ML model or a model that can support “non-linear decision” thinking. Additionally on the ML side, you may want to identify compliance risks or requirements as this will impact your dataset collection approach.

1. Identify Problem Areas: Determine where you need improvement or optimization in your computer engineering tasks. This could be anything from optimizing code performance to predicting system failures. 2. Training: Train your chosen machine learning models on the collected and preprocessed data. This involves feeding the data into the model and adjusting its parameters to minimize error or maximize performance. Remember, while machine learning can be a powerful tool for boosting performance, it's essential to approach it with a clear understanding of the problem you're trying to solve and the limitations of the data and algorithms you're working with.

The model algorithm itself is the MOST important part in our job. Before you even start processing data, you already need to know which alrorothm you should use. That requires tremendous skill but that is exactly what implies great performance

Data Processing have thousand of faces. If your model is based on tabular data, the first thing you need to do is remove outliers via interquantile interval. Feature enginnering (generating new featues/columns) is also an important part of this. If we are talking about generative Neural Networks, text preprocessing is a small part of it as there is no lemmatization, punctuation removal, replacement with NER entitites; while these steps are crucial for text classification task.

As I always say, always use validation data. Train data itself can show nothing except whether your model can be fitted. But the quality of your model is defined strictly by validation. Also, never forget about callbacks: EarlyStopping, Saving Checkpoint etc. And the last but not the least: the more complicated task, the more time you"ll spend modifing the model, monitor training process, rollback and change approaches. So start with simple tasks

ML models integration is a relax part for Data Scientist. At this stage, it implies that model perforfmace is acceptable. Personally, I use Flask to create REST API for the model and if the model does not require GPU for inferences - I use GCP mostly. If GPU is required - AWS instances
