My understanding is based on human been perspective, in summary all the points as be trustfull, seek feedbacks, give support are importants but in most of the companies there is something that is the most important link to put all your skills in evidency and bring to you the opportunities and believe me it is pure politic, not in a bad way but pure politic considering you must have a real person in the decision roon that really supports you. I call this person the godfhather, can be one or more but think about that a real relationsheep based on trust and all other skills you have will bring to you an easy way to sucsses, so work hard in your soft skills because in a certain time of your carreer it will be the difference.

I think the question is not fully accurate, otherwise that organization is not fully healthy… Rephrasing to: What do you do to get promoted? I guess there’s always a situation where supervisors only promote the people who outperform regardless of their rapport. It seems counterintuitive to only promote based on high performance. The metric of trust should be given as much if not slightly more weight when evaluating someone for promotion. We “should” want to promote those with High Trust & High Performance. Those with Low Trust regardless of Performance are most likely a cancer in your organization and “should” be weeded out. In any case, if you want a promotion, build positive rapport in concert with High Performance.
