Once you understand your 'why,' use it to evaluate your current path and tools. Are they truly helping you achieve your career goals? If not, it's time to explore alternatives. Remember, the best career development tools are only effective when they align with your overall purpose. It’s not about the career development tools it’s whether you are using the right tools and the right approach but most importantly your WHY must be strong

Whilst most people will talk about tools, I say just ask yourself why is the help ineffective. Is it tools or is it the human element that isn't vibing with you so well? If we aren't progressing that means one of 3 things: the pathway isn't a fit for us, or the help we're getting isn't effective (from our end as receivers or experts' ends as givers). Tools are like protocols designed for a specific purpose so if you're not effective with them it means you don't understand the protocol& something is missing or the tool you tried doesn't fit your purpose or the person who suggested it in the first place lacks proper understanding of your experience or you missed few details that were important for you to share to be assigned the proper tool.

Selecting the right tools for your career is crucial. Match them with your goals: interest assessments for exploring, skill evaluations for development. Ensure their scientific validity for accurate guidance on your journey. Adapt tools to suit your learning style. Visual learners might prefer videos, while reflective ones may choose books or coaching. I would rather focus on developing a clear long term purpose, work around a clear set of values that are essential for career growth, a set of values that are transformational and require focused and full of awareness development and also a set of aspirational values that would support long term relevance as a professional. With this foundation is more a matter of skills and abilities that may be measured with such a variety of tools. Still, a tool is just a starting point for a thoughtful conversation.

Gathering feedback is vital, acting as a compass for career growth. Aim for specific, actionable insights from those with relevant experience. This targeted approach ensures feedback directly propels you towards your goals. Always thank your feedback providers, showing the impact of their advice. Celebrating progress and setting progress objectives is meaningful and still rare. A coach may play an important role in developing the ability to set progress goals and supporting the coachee in celebrating the wins, modelling the process via cumulative listening, checking back around the progress and invite the coachee to reflect around it? what helped him to achieve progress, what has been difficult and overcome etc.

Celebrating your wins, big or small, fuels your career journey with positive energy. Keep a record of your achievements and feedback in a journal or portfolio. This habit not only tracks your progress but also boosts your morale. Sharing these moments with your support circle multiplies the joy and reinforces your network of encouragement. I would develop a campaign plan projecting my goals for six months and then design it in a way to monitor and evaluate each of the above mentioned points on daily basis along with actions I would need to take everyday to reach my goal. This document gives you a full snap shot of weekly, monthly and/or yearly progress to ensure you're in a right direction. It also allows you to immediately spot where an improvement or innovation is needed in your approach. However, this document requires an honest and realistic updating of all the actions you need to take on each of the sections/points. It really proved useful and after a bit of teething problems initially in relation to getting the hang of this document, it became very easy to understand.
