What do you do if your building design team is struggling to meet project deadlines?

First step is to create a smooth communication to the departments like execution team, planning team and design team for their upcoming tasks and priorities those tasks based on task dependencies. Design team needs a clear idea about the upcoming plan and scope so they can work out on it. Plan for the upcoming programme should be created well advance so design team can plan on their wbs.

There are times during a project when you need to re-assess where you are in the project and where you need to be. If you are falling behind, the first step is to identify why. The second is to determine the path forward and establish a new timeline if needed. Until you have the first and second items, you cannot discuss with the client intelligently. Communicate with the client what you have found and what you'd like to do possibly changing a deadline and how that would affect the project going forward. Communication is key, whether it is with the Client or within your Team.

The design team shall continue to monitor and control the job and very simple to solve the problem with work over time for the team.

cuando nos enfrentamos a retrasos respecto de algunos de los procesos, debemos identificar cuales son las causas reales, pero sobre todas las cosas definir un plan coherente para poder reaccionar frente al retraso. en muchas ocasiones se sobredimensiona el análisis de las causas, lo que a modo personal, es una perdida de tiempo, prefiero enfocar el esfuerzo en buscar alternativas superadoras.

La aceptación y compromiso de cada integrante del equipo respecto de la tarea asignada es fundamental, es conveniente la homogeneidad de los integrantes del equipo asi como también la estructura del mismo, para atacar el retraso de manera efectiva y precisa.

Proper and early communication can reduce delays of the project. As an example, for my project we are having hindrances and collaborative work from different design stakeholders. In that case, we have cleared the doubts regarding scope from the scope matrix, and plan accordingly to reduce the overlapping task dependencies or a design change whenever possible to reduce delays.

Uno de los pilares del éxito en la reformulación de planes o reestructuración de estrategias, es la sinceridad, en primer instancia puertas adentro del equipo y luego hacia los que deben tomar conocimiento sobre nuestro accionar (jefes, supervisores, comitentes, etc) Ya que teniendo claro cual es la situación verdadera, podemos evaluar y considerar alternativas reales y practicables.

En innumerables ocasiones la vorágine laboral, no nos permite realizar un balance completo luego de cada proyecto, y solemos hacerlo mientras estamos sumergiéndonos en otro. Lo importante de esto, es tomar conciencia y entender cuales fueron nuestras virtudes y debilidades, nuestros errores y nuestros aciertos, ya que, en definitiva lo incorporamos a nuestro proceso de aprendizaje continuo.

Struggling to meet the design deadlines means wrong estimation or lack of management based on the design team capacity. Any way I think the only solution for that is to increase the working hours.

Well one thing I have noticed on why a design team struggles to meet deadlines for a project is that they client has created way to many project heads who keep making design changes as per their own will and whims and not having a meeting within their organisation before suggesting a change to the design team
