What do you do if your boss's expectations of your performance are unrealistic?

Effectively communicate what you are capable of doing. Set boundaries early, and understand the job or engagement that you are excepting. Does it require you to learn fast with little help? Are you required to work independent then present in a corporate body? Sometimes we take on things that we really shouldn't. Above all be open in your communication, ask for help if possible. It's okay to remove yourself from things that don't serve you.

Low expectations are the key to success so you’re in trouble with this situation. And don’t expend effort trying to meet high expectations. Do that and your boss will just raise them. So either quit and find another job or raise your expectations of your boss and act on them. Demand more of them. Pretty soon they’ll back off

What's typically happened, is your manager hasn't clearly and specifically identified what they expect from you. As a result, feedback can get skewed and wires get crossed. Ask your manager to specifically outline the following: ?The rubric or guideline he/she/they will be using to evaluate you ?How they developed this tool ?Where you can go to seek coaching and advice to improve your speaking and presentation skills so you're able to not only meet, but exceed the ask(s).

In my experience, have a candid discussion with your boss about his expectations and clarify what is feasible within the given constraints. Negotiate with your boss to establish a more realistic timeline or scope. By actively engaging in discussions about workload and deadlines, you can find a balance that meets both your boss's expectations and your capabilities as a speaker.
